Millis Animal Hospital

I have been going to Millis Animal hospital since the 90’s. They have always provided a dog-owner centered practice. The veterinarians, techs and receptionist all take the time to talk to you and assist you with caring for your animal.

I could not talk about this for years because it traumatized me. I had a beloved Beagle mix named Toby, and he contracted Meningitis when he was about 8 years old. With Meningitis, the optic nerve becomes inflamed and immediate treatment is crucial to save vision. I made a mistake I will always regret by taking Toby to Tom Millis, who had absolutely no idea what he was doing and not a clue that Toby clearly had Meningitis. Instead, he showed me an x-ray of undigested food in Toby's stomach and convinced me it was a blockage that was causing him not to eat, and that he needed emergency surgery. Because of the strain already on Toby's optic nerve, he woke up from that surgery completely blind. And there was no blockage removed from his stomach because the food had already moved through his system at the time of surgery. The way that information was relayed to me on the phone was callous and shocking, and Millis simply sent me home with a blind and still sick dog, and they had the audacity to still charge me for the surgery that blinded him. I took Toby to an emergency hospital where a doctor took one look at the way he was posturing his neck and said he had Meningitis and needed penicillin. Penicillin. That was all my dog needed to be well. He lived the remaining six years of his life blind, and most of that time I spent desperately believing there could be some cure to restore his vision. I never forgot Tom Millis or his negligent, ignorant blinding of my dog. If I hadn't been so young and scared by the whole thing, I would have sued him for malpractice.
